Universal solution for large sewage diameters

The VPC XXL DN2120-2170MM flexible coupling is a professional component for the secure connection of sewage pipes with very large external diameters of 2120-2170mm. The product belongs to the VPC® XXL series from Funke and was developed specifically for demanding applications in sanitary infrastructure.

The system allows for dual-sided, stepless adjustment while maintaining certainty in transferring shear loads. The design enables a diameter reduction of maximum ≤ 50mm, which is sufficient to compensate for differences resulting from various types of pipe constructions made of different materials.

Advanced design and materials

The coupling consists of an adjustable sealing collar made of elastomeric rubber, which forms the heart of the sealing system. This element is made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) according to the DIN EN 681-1 WC/60 standard, or in a special NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) version for resistance to oils and gasoline.

The self-centering centering basket is made of high-impact, crack-resistant plastic, characterized by resistance to both low and high temperatures. Its conically deformable middle part and double-sided integrated strap guide channels ensure centric and stepless reduction with a cylindrical alignment of both contact areas every time.

Two stainless steel clamping bands enable dual-sided, separate, and smooth adjustment of the connected materials. In the standard version, the steel elements are made of V2A stainless steel (material No. 1.4301), while the special version made of V4A steel (material No. 1.4404) provides particular resistance to corrosion and acids.

Material and dimensional compatibility

The system is designed to connect pipes made of various materials: grey cast iron (GGG), polypropylene (PP-MD), high-density polyethylene (PE-HD), PVC-U, ordinary stoneware (N) and high-grade stoneware (H), ordinary concrete, and glass-reinforced plastic (GRP). Additionally, it supports smooth-walled pipes as well as corrugated or ribbed profiles.

The external diameter range of 2120-2170mm allows for the handling of the largest typical dimensions used in modern sanitary infrastructure. The diameter reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference thanks to the articulated middle part, which allows for separate reduction on each side of the coupling.

Operational properties and durability

The materials used in the construction ensure exceptional chemical resistance. The sealing sleeve is resistant to the action of oils and gasoline and is particularly resistant to aggressive substances contained in municipal sewage and soil. The material also maintains stability under the influence of saline seawater.

The multiple sealing profile ensures reliable tightness according to the DIN EN 1610 standard. Radially arranged material cutouts allow the centering basket to hook into the rubber, which further strengthens the connection.

The design eliminates the risk of the rubber sliding or wrinkling during adjustment due to the neutral position of the centering basket relative to the sealing sleeve throughout the entire assembly process.
