Advanced solution for large sewage diameters

The VPC XXL DN2170-2220MM flexible coupling is a professional component of a sewage system designed for connecting pipes with large external diameters of 2170-2220mm. The product belongs to the VPC® XXL series by Funke and represents an ideal solution for installations using pipes made of various materials - from traditional cast iron and stoneware to modern glass-fiber reinforced plastics.

Construction and operating mechanism

The core of the construction is an adjustable sealing collar made of elastomeric rubber, which serves as the primary sealing element for the connection. It works in conjunction with a concentrically self-centering plastic centering ring, responsible for precise positioning and control of the diameter reduction process. The assembly is completed by two stainless steel clamping bands, which allow for bilateral, separate, and smooth adjustment of the connected materials.

The operating mechanism is based on two-dimensional diameter reduction, where the reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference while maintaining the central position of the elements. The articulated middle part allows for independent reductions on each side of the coupling, guaranteeing an optimal fit even with significant dimensional differences between the connected pipes.

Materials and chemical resistance

In the standard version, the sealing collar is made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) according to the DIN EN 681-1 WC/60 standard, ensuring high resistance to weather conditions and aging processes. For special requirements, an oil-resistant version made of NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is available, which is particularly resistant to hydrocarbons.

Standard steel components are made of V2A (1.4301) stainless steel, while the special version utilizes V4A (1.4404) steel with increased resistance to corrosion and acids. This selection of materials ensures long-term resistance to aggressive substances contained in sewage and the influence of saline seawater.

Practical application and operational advantages

The product was developed specifically for the modernization of existing sewage networks and the construction of new large-scale installations. It is particularly effective when connecting pipes with the same nominal diameter but differing actual external dimensions resulting from different production technologies.

The design eliminates the need for additional leveling rings thanks to the possibility of reduction by up to a maximum of 50mm. The bilateral fastening strap system ensures safe installation and full control of the clamping force throughout the entire service life.
