Innovative solution for large diameters in sewage installations
The VPC XXL flexible coupling represents the latest generation of connecting elements for large-diameter sewage systems. This advanced solution enables the safe and leak-proof connection of pipes with the same nominal diameter but made of completely different materials - even when their external diameters differ significantly due to different designs.
Construction and principle of operation
The heart of the system is an adjustable sealing flange made of EPDM elastomeric rubber according to DIN EN 681-1 WC/60, which forms the basis of a multiple sealing profile ensuring reliable tightness in accordance with DIN EN 1610. The design is based on a self-centering plastic centering basket, characterized by high impact resistance and structural stability.
The system utilizes two stainless steel clamping bands to apply forces for bilateral, separate, and smooth diameter adjustment. The standard version uses V2A stainless steel (material no. 1.4301), while the special version uses V4A steel (material no. 1.4404) with increased resistance to corrosion and acids.
Advanced technical capabilities
The reduction mechanism works uniformly around the entire circumference, with the articulated middle part allowing reductions to be performed separately on each side of the coupling. The maximum reduction is ≤ 50 mm, allowing for the compensation of significant dimensional differences between different types of pipes.
Cylindrical contact surface with a minimum width of 60 mm on each side ensures optimal distribution of clamping forces and stable mounting. The bilateral band guide channel guarantees secure guidance of the fastening elements during assembly.
The locating basket and the sealing cuff maintain a neutral position relative to each other, eliminating the risk of rubber folding during the diameter adjustment process. The materials exhibit resistance to the influence of saline seawater as well as aggressive substances contained in sewage and soil.
Applications and compatibility
The system has been designed to handle a wide spectrum of piping materials: cast iron pipes, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PVC-U, stoneware, concrete, and glass-reinforced plastic (GRP). The design accommodates both smooth-walled and corrugated or ribbed pipes.
The oil-resistant version utilizes a sealing cuff made of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), providing resistance to oils and gasoline while maintaining particular resistance to aggressive substances contained in sewage and soil.
Installation requires the use of a torque wrench with a torque of 25 Nm for XXL versions equipped with a hybrid tensioner system. The installation process is simplified thanks to the "click" type design without the need for welding or riveting steel elements.
The system meets the requirements of the German DIBT-Zulassung Z-42.5-450 standards for nominal diameters up to 2000 mm and transfers shear loads while maintaining full functionality throughout the entire service life of the sewage installation.
