Advanced flexible coupling for large diameters

The VPC XXL DN2595-2645MM flexible coupling is an advanced solution for connecting large-diameter sewage pipes with external diameters ranging from 2595 mm to 2645 mm. The product belongs to the Funke VPC® family of couplings, which enable secure and leak-proof connections for pipes made of various materials - cast iron, PP, PE, PVC, stoneware, concrete, and glass-reinforced plastics (GRP).

Construction and principle of operation

The heart of the system is an adjustable sealing flange made of elastomeric rubber, which forms the basis of reliable sealing. It works in conjunction with a concentrically self-centering plastic centering basket, which serves to position and stabilize the entire structure. Two stainless steel clamping bands allow for bilateral, separate, and smooth adjustment of the connected materials.

A key design feature is the ability to reduce the diameter by up to 50 mm. The reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference of the pipe, with the articulated middle section allowing for separate reductions to be performed on each side of the coupling. This enables precise compensation for differences in external diameters resulting from different pipe design types.

Materials and chemical resistance

In the standard version, the steel components are made of V2A (1.4301) stainless steel, providing good corrosion resistance. For demanding applications, a special version made of V4A (1.4404) steel is available, which belongs to the grades particularly resistant to corrosion and acids.

The sealing sleeve in the standard version is made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) according to PN-EN 681-1 WC/60. The oil-resistant version utilizes nitrile rubber (NBR), providing resistance to oils and gasoline, as well as special resistance to aggressive substances found in sewage and soil.

Design and installation advantages

The design provides a bilateral guide for secure tape guidance and a cylindrical contact surface in the sealing area. The double sealing profile guarantees multiple levels of seal redundancy. The locating body and the sealing sleeve maintain a neutral position relative to each other, eliminating the risk of the rubber folding during installation.

The system enables bilateral, stepless adjustment with secure shear load transfer, tested according to DIN 4060 and DIN EN 295 standards. The large cylindrical contact surface ensures even distribution of compressive forces around the entire circumference of the pipe.
