System VPC® XXL for large sewage diameters

The VPC XXL DN2670-2720MM flexible coupling is an advanced solution designed for the professional connection of sewage pipes with large external diameters of 2670-2720mm. The product belongs to the Funke VPC® coupling family, which enables the safe and effective connection of pipes with the same nominal diameter but made of various materials - even with significantly different external diameters resulting from different construction types.

The system was developed specifically for demanding applications in sewage infrastructure where diverse piping technologies meet. The compatibility range includes cast iron pipes (GGG), vitrified clay (DIN EN 295), glass fiber reinforced plastics (GRP), PVC-U (DIN EN 1401), PP-MD (DIN EN 14758), PE-HD (DIN EN 12666), and concrete - both smooth-walled and corrugated or ribbed.

Construction and materials

The VPC® XXL coupling construction is based on an adjustable sealing flange made of elastomeric rubber, which forms the heart of the sealing system. The sleeve features a double sealing profile, ensuring reliable protection against penetration.

The self-centering positioning basket is made of plastic with both frost- and heat-resistant properties. Its articulated middle part allows for separate reduction to be performed on each side of the coupling, guaranteeing a precise fit for every pipe type.

Two stainless steel clamping bands enable bilateral, separate, and smooth adjustment of the connected materials by uniformly distributing the clamping force around the entire circumference of the pipe. The materials used in the construction are characterized by particular resistance to corrosion and acids.

Application and compatibility

The VPC® XXL system is designed to handle the largest diameters in sewage infrastructure - from 1100mm to 2820mm, with the specific DN2670-2720MM model handling an external range of 2670-2720mm. The design allows for a maximum reduction of ≤50mm, enabling compensation for differences resulting from the diversity of pipe manufacturing technologies.

The diameter reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference, eliminating the risk of point overloading that could lead to structural damage to the connection. Each side can be adjusted independently thanks to the articulated design of the middle part.

The wide contact surface provides stable support for transferring operational loads without the risk of deformation or wrinkling of the rubber during the diameter adjustment process.

Technical and operational advantages

The materials used in the construction are characterized by particular resistance to aggressive substances contained in sewage and soil, making the system ideal for industrial and municipal applications exposed to chemicals. Furthermore, the material is resistant to the effects of saline seawater.

The design eliminates the need for additional leveling rings - one product type covers a large range of diameter differences without the need for additional compensation elements. The system maintains reliable shear load transfer while simultaneously maintaining installation flexibility.

The double-sided band guide system guarantees secure fastening without the risk of shifting during installation or operation. The cylindrical contact surface in the sealing area ensures optimal contact between elements throughout the entire service life.

The positioning body and the sealing sleeve maintain a neutral position relative to each other during the adjustment process - this is a key feature that eliminates the risk of rubber wrinkling during temperature changes or installation vibrations.
