Innovative solution for large diameters in underground construction

The VPC XXL DN2770-2820MM flexible coupling is an advanced solution for connecting sewage pipes with large external diameters from 2770 to 2820mm. The product belongs to the Funke VPC® coupling family, which enables secure and leak-proof connections of pipes made from various materials - cast iron, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PVC-U, stoneware, concrete, and glass-reinforced plastics (GRP).

Construction and materials ensuring reliability

The coupling consists of three main components forming a cohesive assembly unit. The sealing sleeve made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber according to the PN-EN 681-1 WC/60 standard features a multiple double sealing profile ensuring reliable tightness in accordance with PN-EN 1610. The positioning cone made of high-impact plastic is characterized by resistance to low and high temperatures as well as cracking. Its conically deformable middle part, along with the strap guide grooves, enables centric and stepless diameter adjustment with a cylindrical alignment of the connected materials.

Two fastening straps made of V4A (1.4404) alloy steel in an oil and gasoline-resistant version provide bilateral, separate, and smooth diameter adjustment. The steel used belongs to grades particularly resistant to corrosion and acids - the sleeve is resistant to aggressive substances contained in sewage and soil, as well as the influence of saline seawater.

Technical parameters and certification

The product holds DIBt-Zulassung Z-42.5-450 for nominal diameters 100-2000mm and allows for a reduction of up to 50mm. The multiple sealing profile with a width of 380mm (insertion depth of 190mm on each side) forms the basis of a professional, leak-proof, and secure pipe connection. Tightness confirmed up to 2.5 bar of internal water pressure by the MPA institute for all diameters.

The diameter reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference while maintaining centricity - the articulated middle part allows for separate reduction on each side of the coupling independently of each other. The hybrid tensioner system transfers force to the steel straps without the need for a tangential wrench during installation.

Practical application in sewage installations

The VPC XXL coupling was specifically designed for extra-large nominal diameters, enabling the secure connection of pipes with external diameters from 1000mm to 2800mm. The design allows for stepless connection on both sides with guaranteed resistance to shear forces according to DIN 4060 or DIN EN 295.

In practice, it eliminates the need for additional leveling rings when different external diameters have the same nominal diameter - e.g., left side AD160 and right side AD190. The large cylindrical contact surface with a minimum width of 60mm on each side ensures uniform force distribution during tightening around the entire circumference of the pipe.

Installation requires free access to the hybrid tensioners and torque control of 25Nm using a torque wrench.
