Corrosion protection for your water heater

A 38x400 mm magnesium anode with a 2” cap is a key element protecting enameled tanks, commonly known as “boilers”, against corrosion. Its task is to protect the inner surface of the tank through galvanic corrosion – magnesium corrodes instead of steel, extending the life of the device. This is a simple yet extremely important solution that avoids costly repairs or replacement of the entire heater.

Construction and application

The anode consists of several elements ensuring tightness and proper operation:

• Anode: made of magnesium (type M-001803), being the actual protective element.
• Brass cap: (40-300106) allows for safe mounting of the anode to the tank.
• O-ring and gasket: (M-008690 and M-015548) ensure a tight connection, preventing leaks.

The anode is designed for mounting in tanks with a capacity of 200 to 500 liters. It will work both in standard SG(S) tanks and SGW(S) and SGW(S)B. It is worth remembering that it is compatible with tanks manufactured before August 1, 2013 with capacities of 200l, 250l, 300l and 400l.

Installation and replacement

A 56 mm socket wrench is recommended for screwing the anode to the tank. Regular replacement of the magnesium anode is essential for maintaining effective corrosion protection – the frequency of replacement depends on the water quality and the intensity of device use. Check the condition of the anode at least once a year and replace it when it shows significant wear. Remember that a worn anode stops performing its protective function!
