Automatic power switch 4‑pole 1600 A HIC492G
Automatic transfer between mains and generator under load
The device enables safe switching between two power sources — mains and generator — even when the circuit is under load. It operates in three fixed positions: I (mains), 0 (off), II (generator), with a mechanical interlock that physically prevents simultaneous energisation of both sources. The transfer involves a brief power interruption — this is a design feature, not a fault. It is not an uninterruptible power system.
Construction and control
Built as a permanently mounted device, equipped with an integrated motor drive that performs automatic switching without manual intervention. Manual control is also possible via a foot‑operated emergency mechanism — available in case of power failure or when intervention is required. The interlocking mechanism allows the position to be physically locked with a latch, meeting safety requirements during maintenance work. The switching mechanism and control circuit are combined in a single enclosure — it monitors source availability and decides on the transfer. It has one normally‑closed auxiliary contact — can be used for position signalling or to control an external device, e.g., a generator.
Application and safety
Intended for installation in distribution panels as a main, safety and maintenance disconnect — complies with IEC EN 60947-3 standards. Rated continuous current 1600 A allows handling of large industrial loads. Short‑circuit withstand current 78 kA (Icw) means the device can survive a brief fault for the duration specified in the standard — without mechanical or thermal damage. Conditional short‑circuit current 100 kA (Iq) ensures compatibility with gG fuses under maximum fault conditions. Cable connections eliminate the need for DIN‑rail mounting — installation is performed directly on a mounting plate inside the panel. Protection class IP00 indicates no front cover — the device must be housed in an enclosure. Rated power 1053 kW at 400 V enables operation of motors, heaters and other high‑power equipment.
