Automatic power switch 4P 160A HIC416G
4P 160A Automatic Power Switch – Solution for Uninterrupted Installation Operation
The device functions as an automatic switch between power sources – e.g., public grid and generator – without the need for manual intervention. The integrated motor drive ensures fast and reliable switching in the event of a power failure, which is critical in facilities requiring continuous operation: hospitals, data centers, commercial buildings, or critical systems.
It features a fixed construction intended for mounting on a mounting plate within distribution boards. It is not suitable for DIN rail mounting or front mounting. Its design allows for safe and durable installation inside a distribution cabinet while ensuring access to cable terminals during maintenance.
Safety and Safety Functions
The device serves as a main disconnector, safety isolator, and maintenance isolator – meaning it can be used as an isolation point for service work and as a component preventing unauthorized access. The locking mechanism prevents accidental switching or disconnection during operation. It is not an emergency stop switch (NOT-AUS), so it is not intended for immediate power cutoff in extreme situations – its function is automatic switching, not life-saving.
It has one normally open (NO) auxiliary contact, which can be used for position signaling (e.g., "grid source active") or control of other devices in the system. The absence of normally closed and changeover contacts limits its functionality to basic status signaling.
Operating Parameters and Durability
It operates at a voltage of 380–415 V AC, with a continuous current of 160 A – for both resistive loads (AC-21) and inductive loads (AC-23). Rated power at 400 V is 105 kW for AC-21 and 72 kW for AC-23 – meaning it is suitable for motors and loads with high starting currents, but not for the maximum load typical of industrial three-phase motors.
The rated conditional short-circuit current Iq is 100 kA – meaning the device can safely interrupt under very high short-circuit conditions if protected by appropriate gl-gG fuses. The short-time withstand current Icw is 12 kA, confirming its resistance to short-term fault currents.
The IP00 protection rating on the front side indicates no protection against contact or dust – therefore, the device must be installed exclusively in a closed distribution board that provides adequate insulation and safety.
Mounting and Compatibility
This is a "fixed" type device requiring no additional mounting components beyond the mounting plate. It is not suitable for intermediate or front mounting. Its construction does not include an optional motor drive or undervoltage release – everything is built-in and ready to operate "out of the box". Compliance with standards is ensured by meeting IEC/EN 60947-3 requirements for disconnectors and switches.
