Automatic power switch 4P 630A HIC463G
Automatic power transfer switch 4P 630A – operation and application
This device enables automatic switching between two power sources – e.g., public grid and emergency generator – without manual intervention. Built in a single enclosure, it combines two 4‑pole disconnectors with a mechanical lock, a motor drive and a control system that reacts to voltage changes. Switching occurs under load, but it is not an uninterrupted system – a brief power interruption occurs during source change. The device serves as a main, safety and maintenance disconnector – physically disconnecting all circuits simultaneously, providing safe circuit isolation.
Construction and functions
The unit is mounted on a mounting plate – it does not fit a DIN rail nor front mounting. Its construction is fixed, meaning it is not intended for frequent disassembly. It has three stable positions: I (source 1), 0 (off), II (source 2). In the “0” position there is a clear mechanical separation of circuits – meeting the requirements of a safety and maintenance disconnector. The built‑in motor drive allows automatic switching on loss or return of voltage; the position can also be changed manually using the emergency handle. An auxiliary normally‑open contact (1 NO) indicates the current switch position – e.g., to an indicator lamp or monitoring system.
Safety and operating conditions
IP00 protection rating means no protection against touch or dust – the unit must be installed in a closed distribution cabinet. Operating voltage is 380–415 V AC, continuous current 630 A – corresponding to a working power of 414 kW at 400 V for resistive loads (AC-21) and 283 kW for motor loads (AC-23). Rated short‑circuit current is 50 kA with gl‑gG fuses, and short‑time withstand current is 17 kA for the duration specified in the standard – allowing use in installations with high short‑circuit power. Connection is made exclusively via cable terminals.
Who is this solution for?
For the installer: this ready‑made solution eliminates the need to install separate disconnectors, drive and controller. Plate mounting is simple, and the mechanical lock ensures safety during service – there is no risk of accidentally energising one source while the other is active.
For the end user: it provides automatic power restoration after a network failure without manual intervention – ideal for facilities requiring power continuity where even a few‑second interruption matters: offices, hospitals, warehouses or production lines.
