Automatic power switch with measurement and communication, 4P 800A HIC480E
Automatic power switching with communication and measurement
This device is a reversing switch with motor drive, designed for automatic switching between two power sources — e.g., public grid and generator. It operates in I-0-II mode, which provides three stable positions: “grid”, “zero” and “generator”. Switching occurs under load, but with a brief interruption of power — it is not an uninterrupted power supply (UPS).
The built‑in EPS controller (Emergency Power Supply system) monitors the parameters of both sources: voltage, frequency and phase sequence. When one source becomes unavailable (e.g., grid outage), the system automatically transfers the load to the other — without manual intervention. Remote control via pulse signals or hold on control terminals is also possible.
Construction and installation
The unit is supplied as permanent panelboard equipment — it is not mounted on a DIN rail or front panel. It has four poles and is connected using cable clamps that accommodate conductors from 35 mm² to 300 mm² (depending on version). The internal construction contains two separate disconnectors that mechanically interlock — both circuits cannot be closed simultaneously.
It features a locking mechanism that allows a padlock to secure the “0” position — a key function for service or maintenance work. An emergency manual drive lever (for storage) enables manual switching even without auxiliary power.
Benefits for the installer and the user
Automatic load‑under‑load switching — loads do not need to be turned off before changing the source.
Integrated EPS controller with LED indicators and LCD display — provides quick diagnosis of grid I/II status, device position and errors.
RS485 / MODBUS / Ethernet communication — can be connected to BMS or SCADA systems via optional modules (up to 4 additional).
Auxiliary contact (NO) — signals the current position (I or II) to monitoring systems.
Short‑circuit protection up to 50 kA — meets requirements for industrial and commercial installations.
Compliance with DIN EN 60947-3 and DIN EN 60947-6-1 — fulfills standards for emergency and reversing disconnectors.
Capability to operate at 208–277 VAC auxiliary supply — flexibility in configuration.
It is not an emergency switch (NOT-AUS), but serves as a main, safety and maintenance disconnect, making it essential in generator systems where physical circuit isolation is required.
All functions are factory‑set to typical levels for most applications — detailed configuration (voltage thresholds, delay times) is performed via the front panel using buttons and the LCD menu.
