Rising voltage release 24-30V AC/DC (SH) HWX020H

What is it and what is it used for?

This is not a circuit breaker or a relay – it is a shunt release, a control element that enables remote or automatic tripping of circuit breakers. It operates only in conjunction with HW1, HW2, HW4, and HW6 devices – i.e., open-frame overcurrent or motor circuit breakers. It has no internal contacts; it does not carry working current but sends a control signal to the closing terminals.

How does it work and what does it connect to?

The control voltage is 24–30 V AC or DC, meaning it can operate on both alternating and direct current. This facilitates integration with various automation systems, from simple relays to PLC controllers. No additional power supplies are required – it connects directly to the existing control circuit.

It draws 300 VA at startup (i.e., during the brief moment of activation) and then maintains only 5 VA, indicating low energy consumption during prolonged operation. It is designed for mounting on hw+ type circuit breakers as well as cam switches, making it suitable for both distribution installations and drive systems.

What does the construction ensure?

With no contacts, there are no sparks and no mechanical wear. The unit is protected to IP4X, meaning it is shielded against solid objects larger than 1 mm. This prevents dust, powder, or small foreign bodies from entering and disrupting operation. It operates within a temperature range of -25°C to +70°C, ensuring safe performance even in unheated rooms or under severe thermal loads.

Insulation between control and main circuits is rated at 480 V, with an impulse voltage withstand capability of 6 kV, providing robust resistance to overvoltages and electromagnetic interference. There is no need to worry about interference from other devices.

Who uses it and when?

Installers use it wherever remote control of a circuit breaker is required without the need for manual button pressing – for example, in building automation, emergency shutdown systems, or setups with time delays. The end user does not see it directly but benefits from its effects: faster tripping during faults, improved energy control, and enhanced safety.

No configuration is required. There are no settings. Simply connect the control voltage – and it works.
