Draw-out air circuit breaker 1600A 3P HW1W316DS
Air‑break pull‑out disconnect switch 1600 A 3P – construction and application
This device is not just a disconnect switch – it is a safe isolation point in industrial installations where a clear, physical separation of the circuit is required. It is designed as a main, safety and maintenance disconnect, meaning it can be used to completely disconnect the load before service work – without the need for additional components. Its pull‑out construction allows safe access to the contacts during service, and the locking mechanism prevents accidental re‑closing.
Installation is possible front‑center as well as indirectly, providing flexibility when integrating into switchgear panels. It does not require a four‑hole panel mounting – its design is intended for standard DIN rails or frames, simplifying integration with existing systems.
Benefits for the installer and the user
Motorised drive enables remote switching on and off – no need to approach the device during operation, increasing safety.
Optional voltage release allows automatic shutdown on voltage drop – useful in circuits with sensitive equipment.
4 auxiliary changeover contacts provide status signalling (on/off) to SCADA or control systems – without adding extra relays.
IP2X protection on the front side safeguards against contact with live parts – meeting basic safety requirements in switchgear panels.
Rated current 1600 A and short‑circuit withstand 55 kA enable the device to handle large industrial loads – e.g., in installations with motors, induction furnaces or HVAC systems.
Compatibility and operating conditions
The device operates reliably in a temperature range from ‑25 °C to +70 °C, making it suitable for both cool warehouses and hot machine rooms. Operating voltage is up to 690 V AC, and at 400 V the power rating reaches 720 kW – sufficient for most large three‑phase circuits. Insulation is rated for 1000 V, and the impulse withstand voltage is 12 kV, complying with PN-EN, 60947-3.
It is not an emergency stop or a reversing switch – its role is clear: safe disconnection, not automatic fault response. This key difference means it does not replace an automatic overload protective device, but complements it as a manual isolation point.
