Stationary circuit breaker with sentinel trip unit 55 kA 1600 A 3P HW1M316FB

Stationary circuit breaker with sentinel trip unit – 55 kA, 1600 A, 3P

This device is a fixed, air‑magnetic circuit breaker designed for use in medium‑ and high‑power switchgear where high breaking capacity and reliability in industrial conditions are required. It is intended as the main protective element for circuits with a rated current of 1600 A and a voltage up to 690 V.

It has three poles and is equipped with four auxiliary switching contacts, allowing integration with control, signalling or interlock systems without the need for additional modules. It does not have disconnecting contacts or standard motor assistance, but it supports an optional motor drive, providing flexibility for automation or remote operation.

The short‑circuit rating of 55 kA at 400 V means the breaker can safely interrupt even extreme fault currents typical of large industrial installations – e.g., in power distribution panels, machines with high‑power motors, or energy‑production systems. This value is not just a number on paper – it guarantees that, in the event of a fault, there will be no arc blast or damage to other installation components.

The mounting is fixed – it cannot be mounted on a DIN rail or withdrawn for service. The main circuit connections are busbar type, meaning the breaker is intended to work with distribution busbars or copper busbars in switchgear. This solution eliminates the need for cables and increases connection stability under high current.

IP2X protection rating provides basic protection against accidental contact with live parts – sufficient for closed switchgear where access is limited to technical personnel. It does not include an built‑in under‑voltage trip or ground‑fault protection – these functions must be provided by other system components.

It features a trip indicator – a physical indication of the device’s state (ON/OFF), facilitating quick diagnosis without opening the enclosure. The control button operates mechanically – there is no electronic control of the trip; all protective logic is based on the sentinel trip unit (which is part of the device), but it is not offered as a configurable module.

No additional protective devices are supplied with it – the breaker itself does not have overload or time‑current protection. Its purpose is safe making and breaking of the circuit under fault conditions; all other functions (e.g., time‑delayed tripping on overload) must be provided by an external unit or control system.

In practice: the installer mounts it directly on the distribution busbars, connects the auxiliary contacts to automation (e.g., status signalling, interlock lock), and the end user relies on its reliability each time large machines are started – without the risk of power loss due to breaker failure.
