Withdrawable air circuit breaker with sentinel trip unit – design and installation
The device is a withdrawable air circuit breaker with four poles, designed for mounting in fixed industrial installations. Its construction allows safe and quick replacements without disconnecting cables – the entire unit slides out of the housing, facilitating service and maintenance. Main circuit connections are not fixed – the connection is made via a separate housing part, providing flexibility during installation and reducing the risk of wiring errors.
The built‑in trip indicator shows the device status at a glance – there is no need to open the housing to check whether the breaker is in the “off” position. This is especially useful for quick inspections or in limited‑access conditions.
Protection and breaking capacity
The rated short‑circuit breaking capacity is 66 kA at 400 V, meaning the device can safely interrupt very high fault currents typical of large industrial switchgear. The rated operating voltage range is 440 V to 690 V, making it suitable for both 400 V systems and 500–690 V installations used in some heavy‑duty applications.
There is no built‑in earth‑fault protection or over‑voltage trip – it functions solely as a mechanical breaker with a sentinel (current) trip unit that responds to overloads and phase faults. Consequently, additional protection (e.g., PRD) must be provided by other circuit elements.
Optionality and compatibility
The device does not have an integrated motor drive, but it supports an optional motor drive that can be added later if remote or automatic operation is required. It cannot be mounted on a DIN rail – it is a stationary unit that requires a dedicated enclosure or switchgear cabinet.
The IP2X protection class offers only basic protection against accidental contact with live parts – it does not protect against dust or water. In practice, this means installation should be performed in closed enclosures with an appropriate protection rating (e.g., IP54/IP65).
Four auxiliary switching contacts are available for status signalling (e.g., “off”, “on”) or integration with automation systems – there are no make‑before‑break or break‑before‑make contacts, so they cannot be used for simple control circuits without additional modules.
