Power switch with motor drive 1000 A HIB490M
Power switch with motor drive – safe switching between sources
This device is not a simple disconnect – it is an automatic system for switching between power sources, designed for continuous and safe operation in critical installations. The integrated motor drive allows remote or automatic switching between the mains and a generator without the need for manual intervention. It functions as a main disconnect, a safety disconnect and a maintenance disconnect – meeting all requirements for circuits where power availability is critical.
The built‑in locking mechanism prevents accidental simultaneous energisation of both sources, eliminating the risk of back‑feeding and protecting personnel. It is a permanently mounted unit intended for installation in distribution panels, not for front‑mounting or DIN‑rail mounting. It does not have an emergency‑stop function – it is not meant for rapid shutdown in case of fault, but for controlled switching.
Construction and application
Cable clamps enable direct and robust connection of conductors – no additional adapters or fittings are required. The switch is four‑pole, operates in the range 380–415 V AC and handles a continuous current of 1000 A. A rating of 658 kW at 400 V means it can safely energise loads typical of large pumps, fans or production lines – it not only conducts current but also makes the connection without damage.
Protection class IP00 indicates no protection against touch or dust – the device is installed inside a panel where the panel enclosure provides safety. It is not intended for outdoor mounting or for locations exposed to moisture or dust.
Safety and durability
During a short‑circuit it can withstand a peak current of up to 64 kA for 1 second – conditions common in industrial installations with high short‑circuit power. The rated conditional short‑circuit current Iq is 50 kA when using gl‑gG fuses, confirming compatibility with typical protection systems. It also complies with IEC 60947-3 (disconnectors) and IEC 60947-6 (emergency switches), ensuring conformity with European safety requirements.
The single normally‑closed auxiliary contact can be used for position signalling (e.g., “source A active”) or to control other devices – such as triggering an alarm or logging system status. There is no provision for external drive or voltage trigger – everything is built‑in and not modifiable.
This is not a device for frequent cycling – it operates as a reversing switch between two fixed sources, not as a contactor in a control loop. Its purpose: to be a reliable bridge between the mains and a generator.
