Power switch with motor drive 1250A HIB491M
Power switch with built‑in motor drive, 1250 A, 4 poles
This device is not a simple disconnect – it is a dual‑source switching system designed for load‑bearing operation with automatic control. The built‑in motor drive enables remote switching between the mains and a generator without physical access to the panel. It operates in the modes: I (source 1) – 0 (off) – II (source 2), with clear visual position indication.
It has a fixed construction – permanently mounted in distribution boards, with no front‑mount or intermediate mounting options. It provides short‑circuit and overload protection, but it is not an emergency stop device (NOT-AUS). Its primary function is safe, controlled switching – e.g., during a power failure or planned power shutdown.
For the installer: operation and mounting
Cable clamps – allow direct connection of conductors without the need for DIN rails. This is a simpler and more robust solution for high currents.
Locking mechanism – enables physical locking of the device in the selected position, e.g., during service work. An extension with a lock can be added.
One normally‑closed auxiliary contact – provides a signal of the switch’s current position to automation or monitoring panels. There are no make‑or‑break contacts, so no extra wiring is required.
IP00 front – the front is unprotected, so installation requires an appropriate enclosure. Do not use it in open spaces.
Installation only in distribution boards – it cannot be mounted on a wall or floor as a standalone unit. It must be housed in a suitably designed enclosure.
For the end user: practical implications
If you have a backup generator, this switch will automatically transfer the load to it when the mains voltage is lost, with no delay and no manual intervention.
It switches under load up to 1250 A – suitable for large installations such as production halls, data centres, ventilation systems, or heat‑pump plants.
It withstands short‑circuit currents up to 100 kA (Iq) and short‑time currents up to 64 kA (Icw), meaning it will not be damaged even in a severe network fault.
Rated load power is 450 kW for AC-3 (motors) and up to 562 kW for AC-23 (mixed loads) – making it suitable for controlling large pumps or compressors.
It has no voltage release – it does not react to voltage drops or surges. Its sole purpose is to switch between two power sources, not to provide protection.
There are no “magical” functions here. This is a tool for professionals: robust, straightforward to operate, and designed to last for years without maintenance. Installation requires knowledge of IEC 60947-3 and IEC 60947-6-1 standards – but if you are experienced with industrial distribution panels, this switch will perform as reliably as its locking mechanism.
