Power switch with motor drive 160 A HIB416M
Motor‑driven switch – automatic switching between power sources
The device enables automatic or manual switching between two power sources without interruption of supply – ideal for systems requiring continuous power, such as hospital installations, data centres, or industrial facilities. It has three stable positions: I – source 1, 0 – off, II – source 2. Switching between them occurs under load, without disconnecting circuits.
The built‑in motor drive operates without operator intervention – a control signal from an external system (e.g., building automation) is sufficient. Manual switching is also possible via an emergency lever, ensuring operation even when auxiliary power is unavailable. The device features a locking mechanism – when set to position 0 it can be locked with a key, meeting safety requirements for maintenance work.
Construction and installation
Designed for mounting in distribution panels as a permanently fixed device. Connection of the main circuits is made through cable terminals – it accepts copper conductors with a cross‑section from 35 mm² to 95 mm² (for 160 A), and the maximum cross‑section is 120 mm². Cable lugs or rigid bars are recommended. Installation requires a flat, rigid surface – it is not suitable for mounting on a DIN rail or a front rail.
Control terminals accept conductors with a cross‑section of 1.5–2.5 mm² (torque: 0.5–0.6 Nm). A terminal strip for auxiliary power (230 V AC) is available and requires the cover to be closed after connection. LED indicators (green = power on, red = manual mode) aid in diagnosing the device’s status.
Safety and durability
The rated conditional short‑circuit current is 100 kA – the device withstands extreme overloads typical of industrial networks. It tolerates a temporary short‑circuit current up to 12 kA, confirming its fault resistance. Operating at 380–415 V AC and a continuous current of 160 A, it can handle loads up to 105 kW at 400 V.
It is classified as a main disconnect, safety, and maintenance device – complying with DIN EN 60947-3 and DIN EN 60947-6-1 standards. The IP00 protection rating indicates no protection against touch or dust on the front side, so it must be installed in a closed distribution panel. It does not have an emergency‑stop function – it is not intended for rapid power cut‑off in urgent situations.
Operation requires external control: a pulse on terminals 315/317 → switch to position I; 317/316 → hold position; 313/317 → switch to position 0. All actions can be controlled via KNX or other building automation systems.
