Power switch with motor drive 400 A HIB440M
Motorized power switch – operation and installation
This device is intended for safe and remote control of power flow in distribution installations. It is designed as a fixed, panel‑mounted unit with main disconnect, safety and maintenance functions – meaning it can be used both for normal circuit breaking and for isolating the installation during service. The motor drive enables remote switching between positions (I, O, II) without physical access to the device – especially useful in panels with limited access or in facilities with automation requirements.
Installation is performed exclusively in distribution boards. The device has no provisions for front or side mounting – it must be secured to a DIN rail or mounting plate in a manner that ensures rigidity and stability. The main terminals are cable‑lugs, allowing connection of conductors from 35 mm² (for 400 A) up to a maximum of 2 × 95 mm². The tightening torque for the screws is 8.3 Nm to 40 Nm, depending on conductor size, and must be strictly observed.
Control and safety
The device does not function as an emergency stop – it lacks an “emergency button” feature. Instead, manual mode is engaged via a mechanical lever that must be placed on its holder before the automatic mode can be activated. In AUTO mode (position “AUT”) control is performed by external signals: pulses on terminals 315/317 (switch to position I), 313/317 (switch to position O) or 316/317 (hold). A green LED confirms power, a red LED indicates manual status or device unavailability.
The IP00 protection rating indicates no protection against touch or foreign objects – therefore the panel enclosure must provide full protection. The panel must not be opened while the device is energized. Additional terminal covers and protective screens, available as accessories, are required for installation. When servicing, a voltage detector must always be used and metal objects must be kept out of the panel interior.
Benefits for installer and user
Remote control allows integration with BMS or building automation systems without physical access to the device.
Built‑in locking mechanism prevents accidental switching during service – essential for personnel safety.
Switching capacity 263 kW at 400 V enables safe control of large loads such as motors, heaters or HVAC systems.
Conditional short‑circuit current 50 kA guarantees resistance to fault currents in industrial networks – meets high‑power installation requirements.
Operating range 380–415 V AC matches standard three‑phase supplies in Europe.
Reversible switching (I–O–II) allows selection between different power sources – e.g., grid + generator.
IEC/EN compliance – the device meets industrial disconnect standards; documentation available online.
There is no provision for an additional voltage trigger or optional drive – everything is built‑in and not modifiable. A faulty device must be replaced entirely – repair is not permitted.
