Arc Fault Detector with Overcurrent Protection – Installation Protection and Fire Prevention
This arc fault detector, also known as an AFDD (Arc Fault Detection Device), is an advanced safety device that effectively detects electrical arcs in the installation. These arcs, often invisible and inaudible, can be the cause of fires, so their early detection is crucial for safety. The ARC916D model combines arc fault detection with traditional overcurrent protection, providing comprehensive protection. This is particularly important in residential buildings, public facilities, and anywhere high fire safety is required.
Functionality and application
The device is designed for mounting in electrical distribution boards and protecting 230V circuits. Its 1P+N (single-pole with neutral wire) construction allows for the protection of a single circuit. The rated current of 16A makes it ideal for protecting lighting, sockets and other devices with medium power consumption. The high short-circuit breaking capacity (6kA) guarantees effective disconnection of the circuit in the event of a short circuit. Additionally, the arc fault detector works with installations without RCDs (residual current devices), expanding the scope of fire protection.
Characteristics and construction
The ARC916D detector is characterized by a B tripping characteristic, which means it reacts quickly to short-term overloads and short circuits. The use of QuickConnect technology simplifies and speeds up the installation of the device in the distribution board. Compact dimensions (width 2 modules – 35.5 mm) allow for efficient use of space in the distribution cabinet. The IP20 degree of protection provides protection against accidental contact, but does not protect against the effects of water or dust – the device is intended for use in dry rooms. The I²t limitation class is 3, which demonstrates its ability to withstand high short-circuit energies without damage. The rated insulation voltage Ui is 500V and the impulse voltage Uimp is 4000V, ensuring safe operation of the device in various network conditions.
