Effective cutting of large cross-section cables without physical effort

Working with thick electrical cables, especially in industrial installations or during power grid modernization, often encounters barriers related to the force required to cut through armor or cores. The Makita DTC104ZK device solves this problem by utilizing a hydraulic cutting mechanism with a clamping force of 120 kN. Thanks to this, even cables with a cross-section of up to 1300 mm² (for single-core) are cut with a single, smooth trigger pull. There is no room for tiring lifting or the risk of incomplete cutting, which could damage insulation or require a repeat operation.

Precision and safety in difficult conditions

A key element of the design is a jaw opening width of up to 105 mm, allowing free adaptation to thick cable bundles. The device is not limited to copper – it also effectively handles aluminum conductors. In practice, this means the tool handles single-core cables (types 600V-CV, IV, and 6600V-CV) with a cross-section of up to 1300 mm². For multi-core cables, the capabilities are slightly different: three-core (600V-CVT) can be cut up to 325 mm², and four-core (600V-VVR) up to 250 mm².

For the installer, this means versatility in a single tool – there is no need to carry several different mechanical cutters. After cutting, the movable jaw automatically returns to the starting position, accelerating the work cycle and eliminating the need for manual resetting of the device before the next cut. Additionally, the afterglow function (work area illumination) ensures visibility in poorly lit technical ducts or manholes where installation often takes place.

Ergonomics and mobility in the field

Despite its impressive hydraulic power, the device weighs only 9.8 kg (tool weight alone), a result of construction optimization for manual operation. Power based on the LXT 18 V battery system allows full mobility – there is no need to drag heavy hydraulic generators or search for a power outlet directly at the installation site. Compatibility with batteries ranging from 1.5 Ah to 6 Ah provides flexibility in selecting the energy source depending on the planned working time.

To prevent accidental activation during transport or maneuvering heavy cables, the trigger switch is designed to minimize the risk of unintended pressing. The tool is supplied in a metal transport case, which protects the precise mechanism from mechanical damage during transport between construction sites. For greater working comfort, an additional carrying strap (optional accessory) can be purchased, which relieves the wrists during prolonged work overhead or in difficult working positions.
