Protocol Converter – MODBUS to Ethernet Network Integration
The EM-483 is a protocol converter that enables communication between devices using the RS-485 interface (MODBUS network) and the Ethernet 10BASE-T and 100BASE-T network. This allows integration of older systems based on MODBUS with modern network infrastructure. The converter acts as a MODBUS server, forwarding requests and responses between MODBUS clients on the Ethernet network and devices on the RS-485 network.
Functionality and Flexibility
EM-483 offers a wide range of configuration options, making it a versatile solution for various applications. It allows flexible addressing on the Ethernet network – you can assign it a MAC address, as well as set a static or dynamic IP address. Access protection to the device is ensured by a configuration mode password and IP address filtering, which limits access to authorized users and devices. The converter supports both MODBUS RTU and ASCII protocols, with the ability to configure parity control and transmission speed.
Advanced Monitoring and Remote Access Features
This is not just a protocol converter – EM-483 is a comprehensive tool for monitoring and remote control. It allows you to read parameters of connected devices, send SMS and email notifications when specified values are exceeded, and create a history of parameters in the form of readable graphs. Access via the Internet through Ethernet enables remote monitoring and control of devices from anywhere. The device supports simultaneous connections to 247 Modbus devices. Additionally, the galvanically isolated RS-485 interface provides protection against interference and damage.
Applications
The EM-483 converter finds application in many areas of industrial automation, SCADA systems and intelligent buildings:
- Industrial Automation: Integration of older MODBUS devices with modern control systems.
- SCADA Systems: Collecting data from distributed MODBUS devices and sending it to a central monitoring system.
- Intelligent Buildings: Monitoring and control of HVAC systems, lighting and other building installations.
- Energy: Reading data from energy meters and remote control of electrical devices.
- Environmental Monitoring: Collecting data from environmental sensors and sending it to an air or water quality monitoring system.
