Safe Power Supply in Hazardous Areas
This device is a fixed socket intended for installation in power circuits with a voltage of 400 V and a current rating up to 32 A. Its primary function is to ensure a reliable power connection for electrical equipment in environments where there is a risk of explosion. Certified for zones 1, 2, 21, and 22, and with an explosion hazard class IIA, this component meets rigorous safety requirements in the chemical, petrochemical, and food industries.
A key structural element is the housing made of polyamide, characterized by high impact resistance (IK08 class) and resistance to external factors. The IP66/67 degree of protection guarantees dust and water tightness, allowing safe operation even under difficult atmospheric conditions or during installation washing. The black housing contrasts with the red voltage marking in accordance with EN 60309-2, facilitating quick identification of network parameters (400-440 V) by technical personnel.
Construction and Installation Principles
Inside the device, silver contacts with front pressure are used, resulting in low transition resistance and connection stability even with high inrush currents. The number of poles is 4, and the protective contact arrangement is clearly defined by the position indicator at the 6 o'clock position. This arrangement eliminates the risk of incorrect phase and grounding connections when mating the plug with the socket.
Installation is performed using a surface-mounted method with screw terminals. The cable entry direction is straight, requiring careful preparation of the conductor and selection of an appropriate cable gland (which is not included in the set). The contact material is raw brass (CuZn), ensuring good conductivity and corrosion resistance while maintaining standard mechanical properties.
The polyamide housing not only protects the interior against mechanical impacts of IK08 class but also ensures durability in industrial environments. The IP66/67 protection rating allows the device to be installed in locations exposed to direct water or dust exposure without risk of failure. The use of silver contacts with front pressure minimizes energy losses and prevents excessive heating of connections during continuous operation. The protective contact arrangement set at the 6h position guarantees the correct switching sequence – grounding occurs before the phase voltage, which is crucial for the safety of the operated equipment.
Practical Application and Safety
The socket is used where frequent connection and disconnection of portable or stationary equipment is required in gas or dust hazardous areas. For example, it can power crane pumps, hand tools, or lighting devices in chemical warehouses or food processing plants. Thanks to the ED (Explosion-proof) flameproof protection, the device effectively isolates internal sparks from the environment.
For the installer, installation precision is critical – the straight cable entry direction requires proper conductor arrangement before tightening the terminals. For the end user, the most important aspect is operational certainty: as soon as the mechanical connection is made, the protective contact system (marked with the 6h position) ensures grounding continuity before the phase voltage is applied. This standard protection guards against electric shock in case of insulation failure of the equipment connected to the network.
