Protection of Three-Phase Circuits in Challenging Conditions

This portable plug from the Shark series, marked in red, is designed for the safe connection of three-phase devices operating at 400 V. By adhering to the IEC 60309-2 standard, the device ensures compatibility with sockets from other manufacturers, which is crucial for work on construction sites or in industrial environments. The red housing not only identifies the 400 V voltage (50/60 Hz) but also indicates a specific contact configuration – it is a 3P+PE (3 phases + protective earth) plug with a phase rotation function. This allows changing the phase sequence without the need to physically twist the cables, which is invaluable when operating motors requiring a specific direction of rotation.

Resistance to Extreme Conditions and Ease of Installation

The housing is made of durable plastic, providing a high degree of protection rated IP67. In practice, this means the plug is completely dust-tight and can be submerged in water up to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes without loss of functionality. Such resistance makes it an ideal choice for work in rain, mud, or during high-pressure cleaning of equipment. An additional advantage of the design is its high resistance to mechanical shocks and vibrations, eliminating the risk of contact damage during transport or intensive operation.

Cable installation is designed to be quick and require no complex tools. The quick-closing system allows easy opening of the housing by twisting it. Inside, screw terminals are used, adapted to standard conductor diameters (cross-section from 2.5 to 6 mm²), which are resistant to loosening under vibration. Color-coded contacts (grey for phases L, blue for N – although in this model we have a 3P+PE arrangement, where PE is marked in green according to the standard) facilitate correct connection and minimize the risk of installation errors.

Key Design Features and Applications

The plug features a straight cable entry and a straight plug-to-socket insertion (straight position), facilitating work in tight spaces. The contacts are made of nickel-plated brass, ensuring low contact resistance and corrosion resistance. The protective earth (PE) contact position is at 6 h, which is the standard for this type of red (400 V) connection.

Thanks to the phase rotation function and robust mechanical construction, the product is ideally suited for the following scenarios:

• Heavy Industry: Connecting machines requiring a change in motor rotation direction without switching wires – this feature eliminates the need for manual swapping of phase conductors.

It is worth noting that the maximum cable bundle diameter fitting inside the plug ranges from 11.5 to 20 mm, allowing connection of standard industrial cables with appropriate conductor cross-sections (2.5–6 mm²). The entire system is designed to require no maintenance throughout its service life, while screw terminals ensure a durable connection even under vibrations generated by machinery. The red color serves as immediate voltage identification for operator safety when working on construction sites or in production halls.
