Heating and cooling system protection – water softener SYR 3200
This SYR 3200 connection unit with a 7-liter tank is a comprehensive solution for water softening in heating and cooling systems. The device, filled with a special ion-exchange resin, effectively protects pipes, fittings, and boilers from scale buildup and corrosion – the main causes of failures and reduced system efficiency. This extends the life of the entire installation and ensures its reliable operation.
How does it work?
The principle of operation is based on ion exchange. The resin in the tank removes calcium and magnesium ions (in the case of softening) or all foreign ions (in the case of demineralization) from the water. The tank capacity depends on the quality of the supply water, the type of resin used, and the device settings. A built-in water meter informs about resin consumption – when a certain level is reached, the cartridge needs to be replaced, which is simple and does not require dismantling the entire tank. Both softening and demineralizing cartridges are available, allowing you to tailor the device to the specific needs of the installation.
Installation and safety
The 3200 unit has R 1/2" threaded connections and should be mounted horizontally on a dedicated bracket. In accordance with PN EN 1717, a backflow preventer of type BA must be installed before the device to prevent backflow into the drinking water installation. SYR type BA 6630 or BA 6628 Plus valves are recommended, which also automatically fill/top up the installation. The device operates in a pressure range of 1-6 bar and a temperature of up to 30°C, and its flow rate is 0.5 m³/h with a pressure drop of 0.2 bar.
Performance and selecting the right tank
A 7-liter tank provides a capacity of up to 24.5 thousand liters of water per degree of German hardness (1° dH) when using softening granules. For comparison, with demineralizing granules, the capacity is 8750 liters / 1° dH. The choice of the appropriate tank size depends on the quality of the supply water and the size of the installation – larger tanks provide longer periods between cartridge changes.
