Multilayer composite pipes for sanitary and heating installations
Wavin Tigris multilayer pipe, made of PE-RT/Al/PE-RT, is a modern solution designed for the construction of hot and cold water installations, central heating and underfloor heating. The pipe construction combines the advantages of plastics and metal, providing high strength, flexibility and corrosion resistance. The aluminum layer acts as an anti-diffusion barrier, protecting the installation from oxygen penetration and extending its lifespan.
Construction and properties
The pipe consists of five layers: inner and outer layers of high-density polyethylene (PE-RT), an intermediate aluminum layer welded end-to-end, and two layers of adhesive ensuring a durable connection. The polyethylene reinforced with linking chains is characterized by high chemical, thermal and slow crack resistance. The aluminum layer prevents oxygen diffusion into the installation, which is particularly important in heating systems with steel components. Thanks to this, the pipe is safe for drinking water (has PZH approval) and ensures long-term reliability.
Application and compatibility
The Wavin Tigris PE-RT/Al/PE-RT pipe is compatible with all fittings of the Wavin Tigris system – both radial (K1, K5, M1, M5) and axial (MX) crimping. It can be used in installations:
- Hot and cold potable water
- Central heating
- Underfloor heating
- Technological installations (chilled water, compressed air)
The pipe is characterized by minimal thermal expansion close to that of metal pipes, which facilitates the design and installation of installations. The large inner diameter ensures optimal flow characteristics. It is flexible and easy to bend, reducing the need for additional fittings.
Operating parameters
The pipe retains its properties over a wide range of operating temperatures – from 1°C to 70°C (short-term up to 95°C) – with a maximum working pressure of 10 bar. The coefficient of thermal expansion is 0.18 mm/(m·K), and the thermal conductivity is 0.4 W/(m·K). The minimum bending radius without tools is 125 mm and with a tool 100mm. The pipe has DIN-CERTCO certification and a DVGW quality mark for water and gas, confirming its compliance with applicable safety standards.
