The BOSCH GAL 18V-160 charger is a solution designed to minimize these downtimes. With a charging current reaching 16 A, the device can fully charge a popular ProCORE18V 8.0 Ah battery in just 44 minutes. This means that even with intensive use, the battery can be charged during a short coffee or lunch break. If you need a quick energy top-up before the end of a shift, the PowerBoost mode allows for delivering 50% capacity in just 15 minutes, which is particularly useful for sudden tasks requiring immediate tool action.

Intelligent modes and battery life protection

The device does not only offer raw speed; it also features advanced energy management functions that allow the charging process to be tailored to specific needs. A mode button on the housing enables switching between three main modes: PowerBoost mode, which prioritizes maximum speed and immediate tool readiness; Standard mode, offering a balanced combination of good speed with optimal cell protection; and Long Life mode, which charges the battery only to approximately 80% capacity. This latter strategy, while sounding like a compromise, significantly extends the total lifespan of the lithium-ion cell, which is crucial for professionals using equipment daily for many years. This allows the installer to choose: whether they want a full power reserve "right now," or want to care for the long-term condition of their equipment lineup.

Active cooling and versatile compatibility

One of the biggest problems with fast charging is the heating up of cells, which can lead to their degradation or the necessity of waiting for them to cool down before reuse. The GAL 18V-160 charger solves this problem thanks to Active Air Cooling technology. Two fans are installed inside the device, which actively cool the battery during the entire charging process. This allows you to safely connect even a hot battery after work and start charging almost immediately, without the risk of system overheating.

The device is compatible with the entire BOSCH Professional 18 V system, supporting 14.4 V and 18 V (Li-Ion type) batteries with capacities from 2 Ah to 12 Ah. Furthermore, thanks to support for the AMPShare alliance, the charger also supports batteries from the industrial partners associated with this initiative, making it a universal energy hub for various tools on the construction site. The charge status is visualized by a precise indicator consisting of 5 LED diodes, which show the exact percentage battery state and any potential errors, eliminating guesswork regarding tool readiness.

Work time planning and operational parameters

To facilitate task organization on the construction site, it is worth remembering the specific charging times for the most popular ProCORE and standard GBA battery models. Using PowerBoost mode, a 4.0 Ah ProCORE18V battery charges to half in about 9 minutes, while the 8.0 Ah version reaches the same level in just 15 minutes. For comparison, in standard full charging mode (100%), the ProCORE18V 4.0 Ah model takes about 25 minutes, and the larger ProCORE18V 8.0 Ah model requires about 44 minutes of device operation. The largest cell in this series, ProCORE18V 12.0 Ah, reaches full power in around 55 minutes of a standard cycle or about 22 minutes in accelerated PowerBoost mode (to halfway). Standard GBA batteries with a capacity of 4.0 Ah (for 14.4 V and 18 V voltages) also charge quickly – a full cycle takes them about fifteen minutes to half an hour depending on the model and mode.

The device is characterized by compact dimensions (approx. 250 x 95 x 140 mm) and a weight of approximately 950 g – 1 kg, making it easy to carry and store in toolboxes or on workshop cabinets. Powered from the mains (230 V), it ensures stable operation in an ambient temperature from 0°C to +45°C. Thanks to microprocessor control, the charging process is safe both for the user and for the expensive lithium-ion cells – it automatically detects the type of connected battery and selects the appropriate charging algorithm and protections against overload or short circuits.
