Welding machines

Which welding machine to choose for a home workshop? This question must be answered by anyone looking for efficient and durable welding equipment. Fortunately, in the Onninen store you will find a wide range of high-quality products and accessories with the necessary certificates.

Which welding machine should I choose?

Before you start welding, you need to choose the type of welder that suits you best. These devices can be divided into several categories. What is the difference between an inverter welder and a transformer welder?

Inverter welder

This is a small-sized device that is characterized by high efficiency and high tolerance for voltage drops. It is very efficient, especially compared to a transformer welder. This type of welder is most often equipped in the workshops of professionals and people who care about regular use of the equipment.

Transformer welder

A device with a simple structure, the advantage of which is low sensitivity to mechanical damage. It will work well for people who will work with welding equipment only occasionally. Choose it if you are thinking about equipping a home garage or amateur workshop.

MIG/MAG, TIG or MMA welders?

Knowing the above division, you can choose from three types of machines: MIG/MAT welder, TIG welder or MMA welder. Check what their advantages and disadvantages are.

MIG/MAG welders

In other words, a mig or semi-automatic welding machine. A gas shield is used for welding. The MIG welding method allows you to work in various positions while maintaining high efficiency. It is higher than a TIG welder, which uses coated electrodes. MIG/MAG is used for welding metals and thicker aluminum, e.g. in car workshops.

TIG welders

The principle of their operation is based on the use of an electric arc, using a non-consumable electrode made of tungsten. The TIG method is very precise and allows for welding thin sheets, which is why it is ideal for work requiring precision. These devices will work well in welding stainless steel or aluminum.

MMA welders

This equipment is used for steel structures in places with limited access. The MMA welding process uses a coated electrode. There are three subtypes of MMA welders.

  • Inverter MMA – considered the best option for beginner welders. The gas in this type of welder comes from the flux, so a cylinder is not needed, as in a traditional MIG.
  • Transformer MMA – are the simplest source of electrical energy for welding with coated electrodes. They are characterized by simple construction and low failure rate. They are recommended for people who plan to weld occasionally.
  • MMA welding – used in the manufacturing industry, but also in home workshops. They supply the electrode with direct current, thus providing smooth regulation of the welding current intensity.

Welding equipment – what to pay attention to?

  • Mobility – consider whether your equipment should be mobile, lightweight and have a small wire feeder, or do you prefer a stationary model on wheels with a feeder for a larger amount of wire?
  • Power supply – depending on your needs, it can be 230 V (for single-phase welders) or 400 V (for three-phase). It is also possible to purchase interphase equipment with the ability to switch between phases.
  • Electrode diameter – this determines the thickness of the welded material. The thicker it is, the larger the electrode diameter you will need.

In the Onninen shop you will find many devices and accessories that will be useful during welding. Remember that detailed information about each product can be found on the product card.
