Flexible cable for EX zones – reliability and safety in harsh conditions

This blue OZ-BL cable, with a cross-section of 0.75 mm² and a voltage of 500V, is designed for operation in areas at risk of explosion. Its flexible construction with 41 conductors makes it ideal for use in control and measurement technology, where high reliability and resistance to external factors are required. This cable is particularly useful in intrinsically safe installations, where safety is paramount.

Construction and properties ensuring long-term operation

The cable features a solid construction. Made of multi-strand copper conductors class 5, it provides good flexibility and ease of installation. PVC insulation (type Z 7225) and an outer PVC jacket (type TM2) guarantee protection against mechanical damage, weathering and UV radiation. The strands are twisted in layers, which minimizes interference and ensures stable signal transmission. The blue jacket color makes it easier to identify the cable in the installation, especially in intrinsically safe systems marked as type -i-.

Application and compliance with standards

The OZ-BL cable is used in control and measurement installations in areas at risk of explosion. It is not intended for burial, but performs well in outdoor installations. It meets the requirements of DIN VDE 0285-525-2-51 / DIN EN 50525-2-51 and has a CE certificate confirming compliance with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU. Additionally, it meets the requirements of DIN VDE 0165-1 / DIN EN 60079-14 / IEC 60079-14 for intrinsically safe systems. The cable is UV-resistant, weather-resistant and exhibits high resistance to oils (detailed information in section Y). The materials used in production are free of silicone, cadmium and substances that hinder painting.

Additional information regarding technical parameters: the cable has a nominal cross-section of 0.75 mm², a nominal voltage of 500 V, an allowable operating temperature of flexibly from -15°C to +80°C and stationary from -40°C to +80°C. Its outer diameter is approximately 18.1 mm, the minimum bending radius (flexible) is 7.5 x cable diameter and (fixed) is 4 x cable diameter. Mutual capacitance conductor/conductor is approximately 120 pF/m and inductance is approximately 0.68 mH/km.
