Compensating cables for precise temperature measurements

This AN 9-2 LSY 2x1.5 compensating cable is a key element in measurement systems, ensuring accuracy and reliability of temperature readings. This cable serves as an extension of the thermocouple, transferring the signal to the measuring device without introducing additional errors resulting from temperature differences. This ensures stable and repeatable measurements, which is particularly important in demanding industrial and laboratory applications.

Construction and materials

The cable is constructed from high-quality conductors made of special materials – strands or wires – insulated with a material selected by the customer: PVC, silicone, Teflon or fiberglass. Available combinations of conductor materials include Fe/Cu-Ni, Ni/Cr-Ni and Pt-Rh/Pt, allowing the cable to be adapted to a specific type of thermocouple. A braided screen made of tinned steel wires (SY type) or copper wires (CY type) provides protection against electromagnetic interference, guaranteeing signal stability. Conductor marking is single-color, and pairs of conductors from 3 pieces are additionally marked with numbers for easy identification.

Properties and application

The AN 9-2 LSY 2x1.5 compensating cable is used in control and measurement technology for accurate temperature measurements. It is ideal as a thermocouple extension cable to the measuring device. This cable is designed to generate the same thermoelectric voltage as the thermocouple itself (according to DIN 43710) at head connection temperatures of up to +200°C. The resistance of the cables is determined according to DIN 43713: Fe: 0.080 ohm/m, CuNi: 0.327 ohm/m, NiCr: 0.07 ohm/m, Ni: 0.3 ohm/m, PtRh: 0.023 ohm/m and Pt: 0.041 ohm/m. The test voltage for cables with PVC, fluoropolymer and silicone insulation is conductor/conductor and conductor/screen - 500 V and screen/screen - 500 V. For cables with fiberglass insulation, the test voltage conductor/conductor is also 500 V. Insulation resistance for PVC, silicone and fluoropolymer is minimum 10 MOhm x km.
