Improving chimney draft and wind protection

The chimney cap, commonly known as a wind cowl, is a component made of acid-resistant steel 1.4404, which significantly improves the operation of the gravitational chimney draft. It works on a simple principle – it uses the force of the wind to create a vacuum, which stabilizes combustion and prevents backflow of exhaust gases. The design of the cowl allows it to be positioned facing the wind, effectively shielding the chimney opening from its direct action.

This solution is used both in ventilation and flue ducts – with one important caveat. It should not be used for smoke ducts powered by solid fuels such as coal, slack, or pea coal. It can be safely mounted on a chimney connected to a wood-burning fireplace. The available diameters of Prodmax cowls range from 100 mm to 350 mm, and this model has a diameter of 180 mm.
