At the Onninen electrical wholesaler we have prepared a wide range of home, office and RTV equipment. We offer various types of dimmers and sensors, including motion sensors that work with lighting, alarm systems and other electricity receivers. You can choose from dozens of products, available immediately or to order.
Application of motion sensors
A motion sensor (colloquially a motion detector) is a device used to automatically control lighting, alarms or other electrical receivers. Motion sensors are responsible for detecting movement in a monitored area within a specified radius - depending on the technical parameters of the given model. If the device detects movement, the lighting or alarm will be switched on. There are many places where motion sensors can be installed. They are most often used in rooms where light is only needed occasionally or where the lamps should be turned on immediately after a person appears, e.g. for safety reasons. You will encounter a motion sensor in the garage, in the hallway, in corridors and stairwells, in the toilet, in the basement or in the attic. They allow you to increase the safety of moving around the room (especially going up and down stairs) and optimize the consumption of electricity, and consequently - reduce electricity bills. Motion and twilight sensors are often combined.
Types of motion sensors
Motion sensors can be divided according to the technology they use. • Infrared (PIR) motion sensors are equipped with a modern motion detector that works in the infrared range. Infrared sensors do not detect movement strictly, but changes in temperature. They react only when a person is present. Additionally, they can check the level of external lighting intensity to turn on the lamps only when they are needed. If the sensor detects movement, but the lighting level is lower than the set value, the lighting will turn on, but after a specified time, if there is no additional movement during the countdown, it will be automatically turned off. • Microwave (active) motion sensors transmit the signal themselves. The appearance of a person in the field affects the wavelength, which is interpreted by microwave sensors as movement and activates the system. • Dual motion sensors combine PIR and microwave technology. When both sensors detect movement, the system will be activated. Thanks to dual sensors, the number of false alarms can be reduced to a minimum.
The most important parameters of motion sensors
When choosing a motion sensor, it is worth paying attention primarily to: • operating technology, • horizontal detection angle, • maximum and minimum switch-on time, • maximum lateral and straight-ahead range, • mounting method, • additional functions (e.g. learning the light intensity threshold value, Bluetooth connectivity), • IP protection class, • power supply.
