Submersible pump - construction and operation

Submersible pumps are devices equipped with an electric motor, operating fully submerged in water. The pump sucks in water and then forces it through a hose or pipe to be removed to the appropriate location. The device is characterized by a hermetic (tight) construction. A submersible pump usually has a float (float switch) that is responsible for automatically turning the device on and off at a certain liquid level, which prevents dangerous dry running.

Application of submersible pumps

Submersible pumps are used:

to remove water when rooms are flooded,
for emptying swimming pools, ponds, sewage wells, rainwater tanks or other water reservoirs,
for pumping sewage and polluted water (special pumps with a grinder are used for this purpose – the grinder grinds larger pollutant particles),
in the mining industry (slurry pumps with increased efficiency are used),
during the drying of areas designated for construction investments,
for emptying dirty water tanks in laundries,
in garden and lawn irrigation systems with rainwater suction from tanks.

Submersible pumps are used in households, as well as in industrial plants and farms. Construction companies also often use these devices.

Which submersible pump should I choose?

When choosing a submersible pump, consider:

maximum capacity (high-capacity models are suitable for applications where water must be pumped out as quickly as possible),
lifting height,
power,
type of liquid (pumping clean water - without major impurities, pumping dirty water, pumping sewage and slurry),
maximum working pressure,
hose diameter,
presence of a swimmer,
quality of workmanship (it is worth choosing a model with a solid and durable stainless steel housing). The choice of a submersible pump depends on individual requirements and specific operating conditions, so before purchasing a given device it is worth consulting a specialist who, after examining the needs and possibilities, will propose the optimal solution.
