As an electrical wholesaler, we supply a wide range of cables and wires for many industries: from telecommunications to power engineering. We offer high-quality telecommunications cables - including fiber optic cables, which you will find in this category. See available products and order a fiber optic cable that meets the requirements of the network.
Construction of fiber optic cables
Optical fiber cable is a type of cable containing one or more glass fibers that conduct pulses of light, usually infrared. By covering the optical fiber with a special coating or coatings, e.g. a polymer layer, it is resistant to damage and other external factors. Currently, the aim is to increase the number of fiber optic bundles in a single cable. Cables of various multiplicities are available.
Optical fiber properties
Fiber optic cables are characterized by:
- resistance to electromagnetic and radio interference,
- very high throughput,
- flexible installation – they can be routed underground or installed as part of an overhead installation (a ground-mounted fibre-optic cable is typically used in municipal telecommunications installations),
- corrosion resistance,
- low weight.
Fiber optic cables - application
Due to their unique properties, i.e. practically unlimited transmission possibilities and resistance to interference, optical fibers are ideal for delivering ultra-fast and stable internet to buildings, replacing popular copper cables. The fastest optical fiber is able to provide signal transmission at speeds of up to several hundred Tb/s (values already exceed 300 Tb/s)! Fiber optic cables are increasingly used during the construction and modernization of telecommunications lines. The FTTX fiber optic internet cable ensures effective data transmission even in difficult weather conditions.
Singlemode or multimode fiber optic cable – which one to choose?
There are different types of fiber optic cables, which allows for precise selection of a solution for a specific purpose. Depending on the type of fiber, we can distinguish:
- single-mode cables (single-mode fibers) – work great when the signal has to travel long distances;
- multimode cables (multimode fibers) – ideal for shorter distances, dedicated to more complex projects. There are also fiber optic cables for special applications.
For example, models with fire-resistant insulation provide additional safety in the event of a fire. Halogen-free cables emit minimal amounts of toxic gases when burned. Cables with strain relief extend the service life and increase the efficiency of installations in difficult conditions.
