Phosphated screws – what makes them stand out?
Phosphated screws (also known as black screws or phosphate screws) are mainly made of electroplated low-carbon steel or galvanized steel. During the production process, the screw is soaked in sulfuric acid, then thoroughly cleaned and immersed in solutions of zinc, iron, magnesium phosphates and phosphoric acid. This produces a coating with a characteristic, almost black finish and exceptional properties. Phosphated screws are resistant to corrosion and mechanical damage and are easy to install in both hard and soft, but thick substrates. Pressing dies are used for processing, which allow for obtaining elements of any size. The final stage of creating phosphate screws is thermal processing, which additionally increases their strength and resistance to damage.
Construction of phosphated wood screws
Phosphated wood screws differ from phosphated metal screws primarily in their design. Wood screws have a small, deep thread, a high pitch, and (usually) a conical structure. Such a screw can be easily screwed into wood, plywood, or chipboard, i.e. into a relatively soft but thick material.
Application of phosphated screws for wood
Phosphated wood screws are primarily used for attaching plasterboard to wooden elements and for connecting chipboard, wooden profiles, plywood, etc. Their coating provides the highest resistance to corrosion and mechanical damage in the category of wood screws, which allows safe fastening in humid environments.
Types of phosphate screws for wood
Phosphated screws are available in the following variants:
- standard – as a rule, they require drilling holes before placing the fasteners in them,
- with self-drilling thread - finished with a special "tip", thanks to which they can be easily mounted in the structure without prior drilling of holes.
